Nightmare Redux: “A Nightmare on Elm Street” (2010) Review

Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)
What I liked:
* The back story. Trying to figure out if Freddy really did the things he was accused of.
*The ending. Loved how the mom died.
*The relationship between Nancy and Quentin.
*The preschool stuff and the “class list”.
*Freddy’s lair and “the box”
*Freddy torturing Jesse.
*All of the stuff at the pharmacy.
*The “micro naps”

What I didn’t:
*The opening scene. Yawn.
*Pretty much everything before Kris died.
*The scenes that were in the trailer that weren’t in the movie (tunnel, Kris as Freddy, the pool opening, the peak-a-boo Freddy).
*The bad CGI.
*The awful acting by the parents.

Overall: Worth a rent and definitely not as bad as some fans have made it seem.

  1. When I look back on this remake, I definitely find more stuff about it that I feel worked than didn’t work. I still like this one a lot more than the Friday the 13th remake (the characters were a LOT more likable to say the least) and overall I had a lot of fun with it.

  2. Overall, I liked the remake. Sure the effects were crap, the acting was sub-par at times, and the jump scares were anything BUT scary, but I felt that there was SOMEthing right about it.

A few scenes really stood out and made the remake one of the better remakes. I do feel let-down by the fact that it didn’t turn out to be as awesome as I anticipated.

Freddy was pretty good, Rooney Mara as Nancy did AWESOME in the scene with her and Freddy in her room, and the backstory tolerable. All in all, I liked the remake, but it had the opportunity to be SO much better.
